About

A small firm, deliberately

Most of the companies we work with are stuck between two bad options: hiring someone they can’t quite justify yet, or signing with a big provider where they’re one account among hundreds.

Why this exists

The pattern that started this practice repeated often enough to be worth building around. A company passes 40 or 50 people. Someone capable — usually in operations or finance — picks up IT alongside their real job, and does a decent job of it for a while.

Then something changes. A second location. A hiring spike. An insurance renewal with questions nobody can answer. An outage that costs a day of output. What was a series of small favors becomes a real job, and nobody has it.

Big providers will happily take the account, but the person who understands your business changes every few months. A full-time hire is $120,000 plus tools, plus the risk of one person holding everything in their head.

Tomei Works is the middle option: a named team that handles the everyday IT, writes everything down, and tells you when you've outgrown us.

How we work

  • 01

Write it down or it doesn't exist

Every piece of work leaves you a list of what you own, written instructions, and decisions with dates on them. Knowledge that only lives in one person’s head is exactly the risk you’re paying us to remove.

  • 02

    Say the limit out loud

Every service on this site says when it’s the wrong choice. We don’t promise 24/7 help we can’t staff, and we don’t guarantee you’ll pass an audit somebody else decides.

  • 03

    Boring is a feature

Most of what protects a company your size is dull: a second login step everywhere, backups that are actually tested, access shut off the same day someone leaves. We’d rather do those well than sell you something clever.

  • 04

    Be exitable

Subscriptions stay in your name, everything we write down is yours, and after the first 90 days it’s month to month. If we’re the right choice it should be because you’d choose us again.

What we don't do

  • Home and consumer IT, or single-device repair
  • Trying to break into your systems to test them — we refer that out
  • Custom software development
  • A guaranteed 24/7 staffed emergency desk
  • Issuing certificates or audit sign-off of any kind
  • Reselling hardware at a markup we don't disclose

Where we are

We currently support US-based teams, mostly remotely, with visits in person arranged case by case. We've been asked about locations outside the US and haven't settled on an answer — if that matters to you, raise it early and we'll be straight with you rather than vague.

We keep the client count deliberately low. When we're at capacity we say so and give you a date, which is occasionally an awkward conversation and always better than the alternative.

On references and testimonials

You won't find client logos or quotes on this site. Much of our work touches things clients would rather not have advertised — an incident, a failed audit, an access review that found more than expected. The composite examples on the industries page are drawn from real patterns and attributed to nobody. If you want to speak to a reference before signing, ask on the call and we'll arrange what we can with permission.

Worth a conversation?

Thirty minutes. We'll tell you if the answer is no.
